Notes from the Director:
The Syracuse Chorale, now performing in its 59th consecutive year, will fill the ever lengthening days of the early spring of 2012 with radiance by performing two concerts on the theme, “Let There Be Light!” In addition to performing the title piece of the concert, Gilbert M. Martin’s Let There Be Light, the Chorale will sing contemporary composer Morten Lauridsen’s deep Lux Aeterna, a requiem that Lauridsen, the “Composer in Residence” with the Los Angeles Master Chorale, composed in 1997, the year his mother died. Lauridsen’s mother had introduced him to music, playing swing jazz and singing to him as a toddler. She also taught him to play piano. The consolation for grief in this work has been compared to Faure’s Requiem and Brahms’ A German Requiem, since both are works inspired by the deaths of the composers’ dear mothers.
In addition to Lauridsen’s mystical and beautiful 25-minute work, the Syracuse Chorale and its Chamber Singers will sing shorter works of radiance by Samuel Barber, Alexander Gretchaninoff, Randall Thompson, John Rutter, Felix Mendelssohn, Willy Richter, Keith Hampton, Andre Thomas, and others, accented by lighting effects! It is our hope that your spring days may be radiant as well, and be filled with even more luminescence by attending this Syracuse Chorale concert!
Ticket prices are $15.00 for general admission and $12.00 for advanced sales and senior citizens. You may request advance sale tickets by emailing tickets@syracusechorale.org or sending your payment to our PO Box. We can either arrange to mail them to you or you can pick them up at the door.
